To find out whether oral antibiotics given after transsphenoidal endoscopic surgery for pituitary adenoma improves sinus and nasal symptoms, reduces the incidence of infection (sinusitis), and helps mucosal healing in the nasal passages.
This phase Ib/II trial studies the side effects and best dose of propranolol hydrochloride when given together with pembrolizumab and how well they work in treating patients with stage IIIC-IV melanoma that cannot be removed by surgery. Pembrolizumab is a monoclonal antibody that "takes the brakes off the immune system" and thus allows for anti-tumor immune responses. Propranolol hydrochloride is a beta adrenergic blocking agent that can enhance immune cell responses when under stress. Giving propranolol hydrochloride and pembrolizumab may work better in treating patients with melanoma.
Glioblastoma is the most frequent and aggressive primary brain tumor in adults. A team recently showed that baseline plasma levels of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) were correlated to bevacizumab activity in patients with recurrent glioblastoma. To date, the biological rationale of this results remains unknown but MMP2 could be involved in classical angiogenesis while MMP9 could promote vasculogenesis. The objectives are to correlate the plasma levels of MMP2 and MMP9 to their Ribonucleic acid (RNA) and protein tissue expression, activity and to patient neuro-imaging features. To analyze the...
Background: - Endocrine neoplasms (tumors) are among the fastest growing tumors in incidence in the United States. Furthermore, it is often difficult to distinguish between benign or malignant tumors in cancers of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal gland, and pancreas. More research is needed to improve detection and treatment options for patients who develop these kinds of cancer. - Researchers are interested in studying the molecular changes that are involved in endocrine cancer development and growth. To collect a sample of tumor specimens and healthy tissue for further study,...
The purpose of this prospective cohort study is to assess clinical and quality of life measures as well as to define the severity of adverse effects for the use of the RefleXion system to deliver intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), in standard of care (SOC) use in the treatment of local,loco-regionally advanced, and oligometastatic malignancies. In addition, patient costs and charges will be analyzed to quantify the health economic impact of this modality. Workflow and quality of radiotherapy planning including a collection of dosimetric data will also be analyzed.
The occurrence of brain metastases (BMs) is increasing given the availability of a more accurate radiological imaging such as MRI for detecting also small brain lesions and the most effective systemic therapy able to control extracranial disease. Although, the new target therapy and immunotherapy has proven to be effective on brain metastasis too, a subgroup of patients shows prove themselves unresponsive to medical treatment. A further subgroup of patients exhibit diffuse brain disease for the presence of multiple brain lesion (>10 BMs) or leptomeningeal carcinomatosis. Among these patients the most treatment employed is represented...
Pear Bio has developed a 3D microtumor assay and computer vision pipeline through which the response of an individual patient's tumor to different anti-cancer regimens can be tested simultaneously ex vivo. This study will recruit patients with primary brain tumors who are due to undergo surgery. Oncologists will be blinded to treatment response on the Pear Bio tool (the assay will be run in parallel with the patient's treatment). The primary objective of this study is to establish the ex vivo model and confirm whether approved therapies exhibit their intended mechanism of action in the model. Secondary objectives include...
Prospective evaluation of clinical outcomes in patients with resectable or metastatic BRAF+ melanoma treated with dabrafenib and trametinib in real practice
The goal of this clinical research trial is to study the use of differing investigational doses and scheduling for Proton Therapy for tumors previously treated with radiation therapy. Generally, when patients are first treated for cancer with radiation therapy, they are treated with traditional photon (or x-ray) radiation therapy, which uses high-energy waves to kill tumor cells. In some cases, the cancer either returns or a new tumor can present in a different part of the body. With the usual radiation treatment, the photon beams travel all the way through the body. As a result, healthy tissues in front of and behind the tumor are ...
This exploratory study investigates how an imaging technique called 68Ga-FAPi-46 PET/CT can determine where and to which degree the FAPI tracer (68Ga-FAPi-46) accumulates in normal and cancer tissues in patients with cancer. Because some cancers take up 68Ga-FAPi-46 it can be seen with PET. FAP stands for Fibroblast Activation Protein. FAP is produced by cells that surround tumors (cancer associated fibroblasts). The function of FAP is not well understood but imaging studies have shown that FAP can be detected with FAPI PET/CT. Imaging FAP with FAPI PET/CT may in the future provide additional information about various cancers.
